5 Secrets to Success For Female Entrepreneurs

1. Know Your Why

Why do you want to succeed? What motivates you?

Without knowing what motivates you, it will be difficult to weather the storm when you face some challenges.

Many people think that their why has to be something big or earth shattering. But I am here to tell you that it doesn’t have to be.

For example, my purpose or why is to help female entrepreneurs start and grow their businesses, and to achieve financial freedom for my family.

I want to succeed because I want to be a role model and a source of inspiration for my kids.  I also want to succeed so I can help others, and encourage them to live their dream.

It’s not earth shattering but it motivates me. As a single mom of two kids, providing for my family and achieving financial freedom is very important to me.

It’s what drives me. It’s the reason I won’t quit even when times are hard, and I am frustrated.

Whatever your purpose or why is, it should be big enough to inspire others to invest in your vision, and to work with you to make your dream come true.

So if you’re struggling with staying motivated, or wondering why you’re working so hard to succeed, then you need to figure out your why.

After you figure out your why, keep it front and center in your mind. When the doubts and setbacks come (and they will), you can remind yourself why you started the journey.

It doesn’t matter how big or small your why is. As long as it matters to you, and as long as it motivates you, then it’s good enough.

2. Have a Vision For Your Success

What does success look like for you? Can you define it?

If you can’t define what success means to you, how will you know when you make it?

It’s important to know or define what success means to you so you can make the right decisions, and focus your plan to fit with your vision.

Let’s say your vision or goal is to achieve financial freedom. The next question is, how do you define financial freedom?

Is it when you pay off all debt including your mortgage? Is it when you leave your 9-5 to focus on your business?

Does financial freedom mean having a specific amount in your savings or investment account? Or living and working from anywhere in the world (I like this one)?

It doesn’t matter how other people define success. What is important is how you define it, and what success looks like to you.

It’s easy to get sucked into other people’s definition of success. When that happens, you start pursuing things that are meaningless or doesn’t make you happy.

Don’t do that. Walk in your own path and decide what success means to you.

Whatever it is, make sure you can articulate it, so you know when you accomplish it.

3. Create a Plan for Your Success

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could just wave a magic wand and make all our dreams come true?

Sadly, there are no shortcuts to success. The only way to become a successful female entrepreneur is to create and execute a plan.

Once you know your why, and you have defined what success means or looks like to you, it’s easy to create a plan to get you to where you want to be.

Story time. When I went back to college to become a registered nurse some years ago, my goal was to complete nursing school in two years. I created a plan to meet my goal.

I knew I had to find a way to test out of the prerequisite courses. So I took CLEP (College-Level Examination Program) courses and tested out of seven prerequisite courses.

It was stressful because I took those tests within a short amount of time. It was worth it since I ended up saving time and money, and I accomplished my goal.

It doesn’t matter what you’re trying to achieve, a plan will help you get there faster.

A plan serves as your road map, and will guide your actions. It helps you to stay focused.

Let’s look at how this works.

Let’s assume that your vision is to build a profitable business. Maybe that’s how you define success, or you could have a specific number in mind you’d like to make each year.

Your plan should include all the steps you can take to meet your goal.

Some things you can do include:

  • Increase your prices
  • Reduce your expenses
  • Improve your sales and marketing strategies
  • Offer more products or services

Ahem. If that’s indeed one of your goals, then I have a FREE course that will help, or you can jump right in and get the Profitable Business Plan.

Why do you need a plan? Because it’s easy to get distracted with so many things clamoring for your attention. A plan helps you to prioritize how you spend your time.

Make your plan as simple as you want. You don’t need a perfect plan to get started. Plans can be tweaked as you go along.

Done is better than perfect.

4. Take action

This step doesn’t need any explanation. Don’t let fear, procrastination, or laziness steal your dreams.

If you want to become a successful female entrepreneur, you have to crush the excuses.

What’s the dream or goal you keep postponing? There’s no time like the present to get started.

If you’re waiting for the perfect time, it may never come, or you may find yourself waiting for a long time.

Start by aligning your actions with your goals. Ignore everything else. Focus on one thing at a time and tune out distractions.

Once you have a plan, commit to it until you get the desired result.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve failed to accomplish my goals because of not taking action.

Sometimes the difference between success and failure is taking action. You have so many good ideas and so many things you want to do, but you never take the next step.

You keep coming up with new excuses. You spend so much time procrastinating, researching and doing everything else under the sun except the thing that truly matters.

It’s time to put an end to that. It’s time to go after your dreams. It’s time to buckle down and do the work that’s required for your success.

5. Believe in Yourself

I laugh when friends and family tell me I’m the strongest person they know. I struggle with self-doubt, and lack of confidence sometimes.

I’ve this knack for imagining the worst. I’ve worked hard to change my mindset. To be more positive, but it isn’t always easy.

I know many female entrepreneurs struggle with fear, insecurity, lack of confidence and limiting beliefs.

But you have to work hard to get rid of them. You have to believe that things will work out if you take action.

I know one of the reasons some women struggle is because they lack confidence in their ability. That’s why I wrote this post 13 Skills You Need to Become a Successful Female Entrepreneur.

That post is a good starting point to show you the skills you need to become successful. So if you’re struggling with self-confidence because you think you lack the skills and knowledge to succeed, go check out the post.

Don’t let the fear of failure stop you from taking action. Keep improving until you succeed. It doesn’t matter how many times you fail.

Your ability to keep trying, to rise up when life knocks you down, that’s what counts. That’s the difference between winning and losing.

Believe that you can succeed if you take action. Believe that your effort and sacrifice will pay off eventually.

Ditch the limiting beliefs. They only hinder you from achieving your goals.

Go forward and succeed. With every failure, you’re getting closer to success.

To recap. There are 5 Secrets to Success For Female Entrepreneurs. They are:

  • Know your why
  • Have a vision for your success
  • Create a plan for your success
  • Take action
